Inaccessible Access (rutgersuniversitypress.org)
Inaccessible Access ethnographically addresses barriers to inclusion within knowledge-making. It focuses on the social, environmental, communicative, and epistemological barriers that people with disabilities confront and embody throughout the course of their learning and living and in the specific context of their higher education institutions and in research. It is presented by a neurodiverse, disabled, and non-cis cohort of authors, all of whom acknowledge a continuum of (in)access that is available to each contributor contingent on their inherent intersectionalities and alterities. The authors and editors of this book foreground the work that has yet to be done on recognizing the value of nonnormative ways of approaching, being in, and knowing research and higher education, particularly in cases where disablity-centered epistemologies are sidelined in confrontation with institutional norms, even within existing discourses concerning equality and alterity.

Making Air Travel Accessible for All: Insights from the ICAO Accessibility Symposium (ablemove.co.uk)
Last week, I had the privilege of attending and speaking at the ICAO/IATA/ACI Accessibility Symposium on Air Travel in Montréal. I represented the voices of wheelchair users in the panel discussion, “Voices of experience: Stories from passengers with disabilities.” It was an incredible opportunity to advocate for greater inclusion in aviation, share lived experiences, and push for systemic changes to support passengers with disabilities. It’s clear the industry is trying, yet somehow is still failing in some critical areas. The symposium made me reflect on a fundamental question about whether current international aviation frameworks can deliver meaningful improvements in accessibility. Let’s first explore the Chicago Convention and the ICAO’s inception.

This is what ableism feels like (lucywebster.substack.com)
Unsurprisingly, the reason life got on top of me was simple: too much ableism in a short space of time, especially the particularly nasty brand of it engendered by the assisted dying debate. I felt fuzzy and emotional and sad, so I closed the laptop, read a book, saw my friends, and generally looked after myself a bit. (Incidentally, I asked my best mate if taking time off meant I’d finally learned my lesson and she said “depends if you stick to it,” and then I ended up writing a piece on Saturday, so the jury is still out and also, yikes, talk about being overly known.)
